How to create an Online Social Media Networking Web

Social Media Marketing and web 2.0 is certainly the rage. But if you are just beginning and you aren’t sure where to start, here are a few tips to get you started.

In my opinion, the first marketing tool you need is a personal website. Company websites are great, but you need a tool that sells YOU. All of your marketing tools will point back to this one specific tool – your personal website.

The next step, get involved in Social Networking Communities. There are many communities to become involved with. Myspace, Facebook, Linkedin, and Ning are some of my favorites. Pick two or three of these. Create a profile and then become an active member that adds value to your community. You don’t have to belong to all of them. The key is to remain focused and consistent. Add to these as time permits.

Next, get involved with Social Content Sharing. Blogging, squidoo, hubpages, and twitter are great examples of social content sharing. Once again, start with one, and as it becomes easier and you get the hang of it, add to it.

Social Video and picture sharing are also very popular today. Youtube and Flickr are both important social video and picture sharing tools. Instead of writing an article, make a video and put in on YouTube. Just like writing an article, your video should share your expertise and create value for your viewer.

Social Bookmarking is a method for Networkers to store, organize, search, and manage bookmarks of web pages on the Internet. What are your favorite websites? Which ones have proved useful to you and your business? Bookmark those and share with your followers. StumpleUpon, Delicious and Digg are my favorite social bookmarking services.

This is a brief overview of the different ways to begin your social media marketing web. Take it piece by piece. And remember, you don’t have to do it all at once. Set yourself a goal and take it day by day and piece by piece.
